Ask ten people what type of exercise they should be doing to burn fat and fire up their metabolism and they'll all probably tell you the same thing. They'll tell you that you need to do 30-40 minutes of moderately-paced aerobic exercise on a treadmill, elliptical machine, stair climber, etc. for 3-5 times per week. What's worse, this type of exercise when done frequently as typically suggested, trains your cardiovascular system to be efficient. Again, while this sounds good, your heart and lungs can actually reduce their capacity for work as they are getting more efficient at doing easy work (your long duration, low intensity aerobic workouts), which reduces their ability to handle stress. This can lead to a host of other problems including higher change of heart attack. You are only working within your current aerobic capacity because you're never challenging it to go beyond what it's capable of. And anything that is easy will not yield results even close to what's challenging for the body to accomplish. Instead, you should be challenging the body to increase its capacity, so that it is stronger and able to deal with stress more easily. How is this done?

The fastest and most efficient way to rev up your metabolism, burn fat faster, and develop lifelong health and fitness is to add lean muscle to your body through resistance training - period. You want life changing results in the quickest possible time? Get stronger and build some muscle. When you add lean muscle to your body you'll be literally turning your body into a fat burning machine!

Let's say that you were eating the amount of calories that allow you to maintain your current bodyweight, but began to add lean muscle to your body through proper resistance training...you'll need to use some of those calories you're eating to feed the new muscle, creating a calorie deficit in your body.

In addition, when you stimulate your body with proper resistance training like I teach my students, the repair and growth process will call upon your stored body fat for energy. This calorie deficit combined with the repair and growth process will allow you to burn fat all day long, every day. And the beauty is I've discovered that you don't have to spend much time working out to get the fat loss effects, and strength and muscle gains that will create this environment...you can actually get it done with 2 or 3 weekly workouts that last between 20 and 30 minutes, and even less time at an advanced level. And it's easy to make this type of exercise part of your life because of its efficiency...and it will help keep you lean and healthy for the rest of it...muscle is the stuff that fat burning furnaces are made of! Ending Compulsive Eating: Quick & Easy Way

End Compulsive Eating

You're minding your business when suddenly a delicious looking cake, muffins, or some other yummy treat appears. You weren't hungry but now that you've seen food you're suddenly ravenous. You jump up and rush to get some before it's all gone. A few minutes go by and then visions of muffins start dancing in your head. Your stomach is complaining, you're checking the time, "Isn't it lunch yet?" You see muffins, you want muffins. The see food eat food cycle begins:

"I want another muffin."


"No, I shouldn't, everyone will think I'm a pig."


"But I really want one, they tasted great. No one will notice if I visit the lunchroom on my way to the copier. I better hurry or they'll be gone."

"What about my diet?"

"I don't care. I'm getting another muffin, I'll start my diet tomorrow."


And off you go. Frustrating, yet so familiar. Since you know this is going to happen from time to time it's best to have a plan. The cycle begins when you see food, want it, eat it, then become angry with yourself for eating it, so you want something to make yourself feel better, and you see food, you want it ... and so it goes, round and round. Wouldn't you like to stop this cycle? You can. Read on ...

Stop the Compulsive Eating Cycle

The following approach works in forestalling the immediate see food/want food response when you jump up and rush to get some, before it's too late. It's something else to do just long enough to give a moment to think, then decide. Realizing you want a treat is okay, deciding to have a treat is fine, but if you want to lose a few pounds, stopping the "I see food, I must eat food" pattern is a good first step.

Changing the See Food/Eat Food Response

When the urge to eat first hits, do a quick round of EFT (see resource box below to learn EFT). Use the desire itself, "I want to eat" or the specific food, "I want chocolate" to form your statement. Keep in mind, the words you use don't matter, so don't get hung up on needing to say the right words. Think of the problem, and the EFT will do it's magic.

Here are a few suggestions to get you started. State first the issue, "Even though ..., and end with a positive such as "I deeply and completely accept myself."

Even though seeing those muffins made me hungry, I deeply and completely accept myself."


OR "Even though I'm suddenly starving, ..."

"Even though I want some ________ (fill in the blank), ..."


"Even though I know once I start eating I'll never stop eating, ..."


"Even though that muffin is going to taste great, ..."


"Even though I'll wreck my diet by eating that cake, ..."



EFT is not Positive Affirmations

Before you decide EFT is not for you because this seems to fly in the face of all the positive affirmations you've been doing, stop worrying. EFT is not positive affirmations and has nothing whatsoever to do with affirming your desire for a goal. EFT is different than any other approach you may have tried. It is something to address the electrical impulses firing in your brain when you think a thought. Thought impulses can be changed easily with EFT.

Use this technique directly on whatever it is that's first and foremost on your mind which means your desire to eat the cookies, or whatever it is you are wanting. Focus on what you want, make it as big as possible. Bring it to an even higher level of desire, if possible. Think of how great it's going to taste, how much you want it, how smooth it'll be, crunchy ,whatever. EFT will address and change that desire if you really think about it while you do the EFT exercise.

When you think of how much you want the cookies, your brain is linking up all the other times you enjoyed cookies, all the good feelings, memories, it's all linked up. That's how the brain works; it makes connections and associations. So while you think about your issue, the EFT process is simply knocking the signal off it's familiar path, effectively changing it.

Analysis Paralysis or Just Drive

I don't know how my car's engine works, but I can drive. I get where I want to go, and I don't need to analyze how that happens. Do the same thing with EFT. You don't have to understand or analyze every nuance of EFT or why it works. Just use it and see if it's helpful for you. (For info on learning EFT see resource box).

After one round, think again about what you wanted to eat and see whether your desire is the same. Is it higher, lower? Don't try to make the desire different, just figure out whether you think it has changed. If it has lessened, but not by much, then do a second round, stating "Even though I still want to eat ..., I deeply and completely accept myself." EFT only takes a moment to do, so do it as often as you need, until you get that desire reduced.

Sometimes it happens so quickly people can't believe it was the EFT. "I just changed my mind," they'll say. "I didn't really want the cookies after all." We tend to need to rationalize everything that happens, and it's no different with EFT. When something works so easily to simply change your desire from wanting something very much to suddenly not wanting it at all, there's no way you aren't going to try to from some reasonable explanation. Go ahead and decide that it wasn't the EFT, but because you said you didn't want to eat the cookies. Then just smile and know you can have the cookies later, if you want, but for now, you just don't want them.

Владельцев торговых помещений лишат права повышать арендную плату?

Владельцы торговых помещений могут лишиться права самостоятельно повышать арендную плату. Минэкономики и Госкомпредпринимательства подготовили проект приказа, предусматривающий, что она должна рассчитываться, исходя из предельной рентабельности от сдачи площадей в аренду в размере 20%.

Собственники торговых центров считают, что госорганы юридически не имеют права ограничивать их рентабельность.

Минэкономики совместно с Госкомитетом по вопросам предпринимательства вчера опубликовало проект приказа, утверждающий "Порядок расчета цен на услуги и аренду торговых помещений и их обслуживание в торговых объектах, на рынках", сообщает Коммерсант Украина. В случае его принятия собственники помещений для повышения арендной платы должны будут доказывать его необходимость в связи со снижением своей рентабельности.

Причем арендная ставка должна учитывать цену и размер торгового объекта, а рентабельность от его сдачи не сможет превышать 20%. По словам участников рынка, в Киеве и областных центрах по части объектов этот показатель выше.

"Есть целый ряд торговых объектов, где нет конкуренции: рынки в небольших городах, отдельные торговые центры, альтернативы которым нет, – отметила глава Госкомпредпринимательства Александра Кужель. – И часто собственник самовольно увеличивает арендную плату, не оставляя выбора торговцам, что отражается на ценах для потребителей", цитирует Инфобуд.

Она напомнила, что в условиях кризиса государство сделало первый шаг – снизило стоимость аренды госсобственности на 55%. За исполнением приказа будет следить Госценинспекция. "А если будет мало – подключим прокуратуру", – пообещала госпожа Кужель.

Вероятность утверждения документа достаточно высока: его разработка предусмотрена постановлением Кабмина N 278 от 5 марта "О мерах по стабилизации цен за предоставление услуг и аренду торговых помещений в торговых объектах, на рынках по продаже продовольственных и непродовольственных товаров в условиях финансово-экономического кризиса". Документ, в частности, ограничивает норму рентабельности и дает образец нового стандартного договора аренды.

Участники рынка инициативой Минэкономики удивлены. "Объект, в деятельность которого вмешивается государство, не будет интересен инвесторам. Арендатор платит столько, сколько готов платить, – подчеркнул заместитель директора "Украинской торговой гильдии" Виталий Бойко. – Тем более в условиях кризиса арендатор диктует владельцам торгцентров выгодные для себя условия". "Если я добился низкой себестоимости строительства, то, ограничивая норму рентабельности, государство забирает мою эффективность. Какой смысл тогда добиваться эффективности?", – возмущен директор по развитию проектов девелоперской компании "Стокман" Сергей Овчинников.

По словам господина Бойко, против нововведений уже выступили владельцы 70 торговых центров, которые направили в Госкомпредпринимательства письмо с требованием не вводить ограничения, так как считают, что приказ противоречит нормам украинского законодательства, передает Инфобуд. "Протестов очень много, – признает Александра Кужель. – Но для нас главное – защитить права арендаторов и потребителей".

По мнению партнера адвокатской компании Astapov Lawyers Игоря Черезова, владельцы торговых объектов могут оспорить приказ: "Норма рентабельности будет ограничиваться постановлением Кабмина, которое можно обжаловать в суде. Подобные прецеденты уже существуют".

Dieting: Cut Confusion and Go for a Balanced Meal

If you're confused about the calories to need to cut out of your diet to lose weight, then read on. But first let's get our concepts right.

What is a calorie?

It is a measure or unit of energy. If you say that a food contain 100 calories, this means that if the food is completely metabolized or 'burnt' in the human body, 100 non-metric units or 420 metric units of energy will be released for use by the body.

The body can use this energy for physical activity and for keeping the basic metabolic processes (digestion, breathing etc.) running. Your body may use the calories in the food to do daily work or just to provide energy for your body processes while you are sleeping.

If you take in more energy in the form of calories than your body requires, that energy will be stored in the form of fat. If you take in less energy than your body requires, it will have to get some energy out of its storage depots and break down some fat to obtain the required energy, thus causing weight loss.

How many calories should I eat if I want to slim down?

Generally speaking, we need to reduce energy intake by 500 cal to lose between 0.5 and 1 kg per week - a rate that will help to keep the weight you lose from being regained.

An average, moderately active woman between the age of 18 and 50 needs 2,200 cal a day to maintain her weight. To lose weight, she needs to reduce her energy intake by 500 cal down to 1700 cal a day.

An average, moderately active man between the age of 18 and 50 needs, 2900 cal to maintain his body weight. To reduce weight, an average man would have to reduce his energy intake by 500 cal down to 2400 calories a day.

Is food x fattening?

Many of us wonder about specific foods or beverages and whether they are fattening or not. The answer is: all foods and drinks are potentially fattening if consumed in excess.

This means that even if you eat what many regard as "good or healthy" foods (e.g. Yoghurt, fruits, vegetables, vegetarian dishes etc.) and you eat so much that you push up your energy intake beyond your daily requirement, these good and healthy foods will still make you gain weight.

The fact that a food or beverage has excellent nutritional properties does not mean it does not have the potential to make you fat if you overdo the intake.

Conversely, many foods that have very high energy content, such as olive oil, are so nutritious that it's a good idea to include them in your diet, but in moderate quantities.

What are negative energy foods?

The concept of negative energy foods and drinks is also cause for much confusion this theory is based on the fact that we use up some energy to digest foods and drink.

Some foods have such a low energy content that we theoretically use up more energy than they contain to digest them. Thus, one can regard these foods as negative energy foods. Examples include lettuce, celery, tomatoes, cucumber, lemon juice, grapefruit, strawberries and other berries, cabbage, sugarless chewing gum and artificially-sweetened beverages.

The problem is that people think that they can eat only these foods when they are trying to lose weight. No one can live on lettuce and tomatoes for days on end. This is a totally unbalanced diet and will result in variety of negative effects, including deficiencies, constipation, lack of energy, faintness and shakiness.

The ironic thing is that if you try and lose weight by ingesting negative energy foods and artificially-sweetened drinks on their own, your body many react to this starvation regimen by shutting off its weight loss systems and you may stop losing weight altogether.

Negative energy foods are excellent fillers when you are on a slimming diet. For example, having a large salad made up of these foods with cottage cheese and whole wheat bread will make a filling, low-fat, low-energy meal that will keep you satisfied for longer.
